This could almost be a regular feature. It seems that the two commentators on RAC radio were not the only ones who fell apart when Iniesta’s sweet strike hit the net. Here are 5 of the very best radio commentaries from other Spanish commentators proving that it wasn’t just Catalans that lost the plot:
1. “Gol, gol, gol, gol, gol, gol, gol..” from Radio Mundo Deportivo. Fast Forward to 5.20 minutes into this clip for the commentary. This is possibly the best commentary EVER and is frightening even compared to Señor “Gol de lo puto crack”. The first guy sounds like he’s been beaten-up while his compatriot in the background is having some kind of “Gol, gol gol/Iniesta” fit. Note the way that in the middle of his breakdown, he still manages to point-out that Iniesta will receive a yellow card for taking his shirt-off. By the end, he’s a broken man and it’s clear the goal has shattered the man that once was. I’ll never listen to another radio station again after this.
2. Synthtastic from Radio Espanyola:
3. “Golazo, golazo, golazo, golazo!” from Carles Escolan on Radio Marca. Fast Forward to 1 minute in this clip for the commentary. This one sounds like a “gol/golazo” machine gun and features some of the fastest speaking I’ve ever heard. Marca is the “official” newspaper of Real Madrid so I’m not quite sure why they were so happy but maybe even they preferred to see anyone but Chelsea go through.
4. “Brutal, Bestial, Total..!” from Alfredo Martinez on Onda Cero. This one starts off relatively civilized but then the main commentator gradually descends into an abyss of madness where he starts rhyming, declares he is in love with Iniesta before finally collapsing and declaring “Iniesta is God”.
5. “Cerebro Iniesta” from ESPN. Quite rightly screaming that Iniesta is the “brains” of the team:
This compilation wouldn’t really be complete though without adding one of the most famous famous football commentaries of all time from 1981. However, I think regarding the occasion, the drama surrounding it and the fact that it was Barça, “Gol de lo puto crack” has overtaken it in my mind:
haha… remarkable collection, I didnt think anything could touch gol de lo puto crack but there’s definitely contenders!
I reckon number 4 really did fall in love, I’m sure his wife has never heard anything like that sort of ecstasy coming from him.
I know. I’m completely split between number 1 and number 4. Number one has completely lost it not knowing whether to continue chanting “Gol, Gol, Gol” or report the fact that Iniesta has got a yellow card for taking his shirt-off. His colleague sounds like some kind of parent trying to calm his child down going “They deserve it. It’s the Justice of football”.
Number 4 just keeps growing on me though. As you say, I wonder if his wife has heard that and if she has, whether she’s divorced him now. I especially like the bit, “Como la pego, como la pego” and everything that comes after it. It’s an unbridled declaration of love that you’d be hard pushed to find even in a Shakespeare play.
[...] the way, I haven’t heard any outstanding “Gol de lo puto crack” commentary moments yet after Iniesta’s goal, but this one from Radio Espanyola is [...]
